REPLACEMENT COKE DRUMS BOUND FOR BILLINGS MT ARRIVE

Emmert International transported the 49’L x 26’ Diameter Coke Drums, manufactured in Japan to be used in a refinery, from Longview, Washington to Billings, Montana via barge and highway. Emmert led and executed an exceptionally challenging project under extreme weather conditions over a prolonged schedule. After three years of planning and permits the 4 halves of these mega loads were on the road headed for their final destination.

After being loaded to Emmert internationals specially designed transport systems, the convoy was ready to put all of this planning into motion. Consisting of traffic control, pilot cars, Police escorts, utility trucks and even an ambulance coupled with the main load at over 200’ it is not surprising the crowds this convoy drew. In addition to all of the local people, spectators came to watch this massive event from all surrounding states as well as national media coverage.

With a Maximum speed of 35 mph it would take the vessels, and 80 person crew, over a month to reach the offload site. From Missoula, the four Billings-bound rigs would travel on Interstate 90 to Bonner, where they would exit onto a secondary road through Milltown and Piltzville to avoid an overpass at the Bonner interchange. Back on the interstate, they’d exit again at Garrison and continue on Highway 12 over MacDonald Pass and through Helena and into Billings.
