FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Emmert International's Ingenuity Elevates Us A Step Above The Rest
CLACKAMAS, Ore. — September 14, 2005 —
Emmert International successfully completes yet another demanding feat, not once, but twice. When presented with the task of transporting and erecting two vessels, each weighing over 741,000 lbs., for a refinery in Ferndale, Washington, we rose to the challenge.
In addition to overcoming obstacles commonly present in a roll on-roll off operation from barge to land, Emmert International transported each vessel over the road via self-propelled platform trailers, involving the timely coordination of numerous agencies assisting with the move. After the successful delivery of both vessels, Emmert worked closely with the client to strategically stage the vessels to help accommodate further work needed on the vessels prior to up righting.
Emmert International was called back into action only a short time later to assist the crane contractor with the erection process within the refinery. Due to space limitations and numerous fixed obstructions within the refinery, including a low overhead pipe rack at the lift area, Emmert International's engineers had to design and manufacture specialized apparatus to accommodate the upending procedure. Emmert International's utilization of platform trailers and its specially designed upending device coupled with the experienced personnel of both Emmert and the crane contractor contributed to the overall successful completion of this high profile project.
Challenges Included:
- Over a year of project planning and extensive permitting processes with various agencies to obtain beach landing approval
- Compliance with strict environmental and ecological regulations for discharging the barge
- Emmert International's ability to organize and execute a timely barge offload to coincide with appropriate tide heights and client's delivery schedule
- Overcoming fixed obstructions such as fire monitors and hydrants, overhead pipe racks, bollards
- Space limitations within the lift area
- Ground bearing limitations
- Work performed inside a live operating refinery plant under strict time schedule
