Impossible For Most People - It's What We Do For A Living Every Day
Emmert International Completes 60-Piece Refinery Parts Move
February 2005 - Emmert International has successfully completed another difficult specialized transportation project moving 51 large steel-frame with process pipe modules and 9 vessels from barges to the Sunoco Refinery in Toledo, Ohio.
Challenges to the project included:
- The modules were up to 80'L x 24'W x 22'6"H, which required extensive planning, engineering and prep work to develop a route.
- Emmert utilized multi-modal transport equipment including hydraulic platform trailers, hydraulic dolly systems and conventional trailers.
- Emmert worked closely with the state of Ohio, multiple municipal agencies, utility companies and other groups to obtain route approval. Work had to be coordinated with the power, telephone and cable companies to ensure uninterrupted service to their customers.
- Obstacles on the route included four bridges, traffic signals that had to be moved, sharp corners, and other similar items. Convoys of 2-4 pieces could only be moved from 1:00 a.m. through 7:00 a.m. each day. An electrical contractor and skilled tradesmen from the various utilities accompanied each convoy accompanied each load.
- Delivery had to occur in a precise order with arrival times coordinated to a specific schedule. Work was coordinated on a daily basis through excellent lines of communication with the Emmert Project Manager serving as the hub.
- Much of the work took place during the winter months when snow, sleet and ice made over the road transportation very difficult.
Through it all Emmert provide safe, reliable, on-time delivery service for the client. As we like to say, it's an impossible job for most people, but it's what we do for a living every day.
